Welcome to a new year in ABPsi! I am so excited about beginning our journey over the next year together! I hope that we will
be able to accomplish a great deal for our community! It is an interesting time for mental health, especially for Africans in America! Our challenges continue to be enormous, and as usual…the harvest is plenty, but the laborers are few!
On behalf of the Minnesota Chapter of Black Psychologists, I wish to invite you to join our group by completing the attached membership application/renewal form and mailing it in with your check for $55 today! Student membership is a mere $15!
Our meetings are monthly and are held from 5:30 pm to 6:45 pm, at Hamline Park Plaza (not on Hamline Avenue) which is located on 570 Asbury Street, First Floor Conference Room St. Paul, MN 55104. If you are interested in coming, please contact me, Willie B. Garrett, Ed.D., Interim President, at 651-343-3182. Members are asked to please bring a food item to share.
Your membership dollars also provide you an opportunity to get free or discounted registration fees for continuing education events sponsored or co-sponsored by our organization. Finally, you have a FREE listing (a $35 value) in our well-respected and highly valued Mental Health Directory.
I would also like to encourage you to make a contribution of any amount to the long-standing ABPsi graduate student scholarship fund in honor of Anita Gaye Hawthorne or you may choose to make a contribution to the Salimah Majeed Community Mental Health Award Fund. This fund is dedicated to annually honoring a local mental health provider for commitment to community mental health. Both Salimah and Anita were beloved members of our group, whose visions continue to exist in the spirit of Umoja that is felt within our group to this very day. ABPsi is a 501c3 non-profit organization. To make a contribution, simply add that amount to your local dues check and make note of it on the notation section of your check.
Finally, I am also soliciting input from each of you regarding how we could best support your personal/professional visions for ABPsi. So, please feel free to forward other ideas to our executive committee as soon as possible!
Again, thanks for paying your dues and joining us in the spirit of Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility)! See you at the next meeting!
Willie Garrett, M.A., LP, Ed.D.
